ADAM MARTIN

(1965-2024)

The late ADAM MARTIN co-founded BODYTECH Sdn. Bhd. in 1999 with his wife SELINA FOONG.  ADAM was a well-known Myotherapist, who treated countless clients over the span of a successful career which lasted almost 40 years.  With his strong background in elite sport, having been crowned South Pacific Caber Tossing Champion in 1990, he was able to bring a depth of experience and knowledge to his profession which was highly unique.

ADAM was passionate about helping clients to achieve their physical wellness goals, and he loved sharing his knowledge with others.  His method of closely integrating Physical Therapy with Exercise Rehabilitation was very effective, offering long-term solutions with lasting benefits.  Sadly, ADAM passed away in June 2024 after a long illness, leaving behind an enduring legacy which BODYTECH is determined to honour and bring to new heights.

Common Conditions We Treat

Lower back pain is discomfort or stiffness in the area between the ribs and hips. It’s very common and can range from a dull ache to sharp or shooting pain.  Most cases are caused by muscle strain, poor posture, heavy lifting, or prolonged sitting.  They can also result from conditions such as herniated disc or sciatica.

Neck pain is discomfort or stiffness in the cervical spine (the neck area). It can feel like a dull ache, sharp pain, or tightness, and sometimes spreads to the shoulders or arms. Common causes include poor posture (like looking down at phones), muscle strain, sleeping in an awkward position, or injuries. It can also be linked to conditions such as cervical spondylosis or pinched nerve.

Adhesive Capsulitis is a condition where the shoulder becomes painful, stiff and difficult to move. It develops gradually, as the capsule around the shoulder joint becomes inflamed, thickened and tight – ultimately leading to limited shoulder movement.  It typically progresses through 3 stages:  Painful (freezing stage), Stiff (frozen stage ), and Recovery (Thawing stage).  This condition can last for months to years, depending on its degree of severity.

Rotator Cuff Injury is damage or irritation to the group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint.  It often causes pain, weakness, and difficulty lifting or rotating the arm.  Common causes include repetitive overhead movements, aging-related wear and tear, or sudden injury.  It may involve conditions like rotator cuff tear or tendon inflammation.  Symptoms typically worsen with activity, and at night.

Tennis Elbow is a condition that causes pain and tenderness on the outer part of the elbow. It occurs when the tendons that attach the forearm muscles to the elbow become inflamed or overloaded, often due to repetitive wrist or arm movements. Common causes include racquet sports such as tennis, or activities which involve repeated gripping and lifting.  Symptoms include pain when lifting, gripping, or twisting the forearm.  Sometimes, the pain also radiates down the arm.

Golfer’s Elbow is a condition that causes pain and tenderness on the inner side of the elbow. It occurs when the tendons connecting the forearm muscles to the elbow become inflamed or strained, often due to repetitive gripping, swinging, or lifting motions. Common causes include golf, racquet sports, throwing, or manual work involving repeated wrist flexion. Symptoms include pain when bending the wrist, gripping objects, and twisting the forearm.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. This compression leads to symptoms like numbness, tingling and weakness; as well as pain in the thumb, index, middle, and part of the ring finger.

Slipped Disc occurs when the soft inner portion of a spinal disc pushes out through a tear in its outer layer.  This can irritate nearby nerves, causing pain, numbness, or weakness often felt in the lower back or neck.  It is usually caused by ageing, improper lifting, or sudden strain. In some cases, it can lead to nerve pain such as sciatica.

ITB syndrome is an overuse injury that causes pain on the outer side of the thigh and knee. It happens when the iliotibial band, a thick strip of tissue running from the hip to the knee, becomes tight or inflamed and rubs against the knee joint. It is common in runners and cyclists, especially with repetitive knee bending. Symptoms include sharp or burning pain on the outside of the knee, often worsening during activity.

Runner’s knee is a common condition that causes pain around or behind the kneecap. It often feels like a dull ache that worsens with activities such as running, climbing stairs, squatting, or sitting for long periods.

SI Joint Dysfunction is a condition where the sacroiliac joints (located where the spine meets the pelvis) become inflamed or move abnormally, causing pain in the lower back and buttocks.  The pain may worsen with standing, walking, or climbing stairs, and its symptoms can sometimes be mistaken for sciatica.

Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. It often occurs due to overuse, improper footwear, high-impact activities such as running, or biomechanical issues such as flat feet. Symptoms include sharp heel pain especially during one’s first steps in the morning, or after prolonged standing.

Feet Pain refers to discomfort or soreness anywhere in the feet, which can range from mild to severe. It may involve muscles, joints, ligaments, or nerves and can affect one or both feet. Common causes include overuse, poor footwear, injuries, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, nerve conditions like neuropathy, and structural issues such as flat feet or bunions. Symptoms vary but often include aching, burning, stabbing, and stiffness of the feet.

Rehabilitation Programs We Offer
